Today is Roald Dahl’s birthday. In celebration, might I suggest you pick up one of his lesser-known works, one that I LOVED as a kid (and still love today)? The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More contains the story of the titular Henry Sugar, who hears about a man who trained himself to see with his eyes closed and covered, and decides to try it himself. His version, however, involves seeing THROUGH playing cards in order to be able to cheat in Monte Carlo. Will wealth bring fulfillment? The other stories in the book are pretty cool too.
Other Dahl books I loved as a kid were Boy, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (especially the description of the factory rooms one could visit via the great glass elevator! Oh, to be in that elevator and choose!).
