One of my favorite books from last year was Emily Gravett’s Monkey and Me. Since most of the storytimes I perform are bilingual (English/Spanish), when I found out I could get a Spanish-language copy of the book in my Cheerios box, I went right out and bought one. I don’t eat a lot of cereal, and I think that half-filled box might still be at the back of my pantry. But I got my own little version of the book, with text in Spanish!
Isn’t this a great idea? Instead of giving kids some tacky piece of plastic that they will play with for a few weeks and which will then end up cluttering up a landfill, give them the gift of books and literacy!
Now you can be part of the fun — vote on which book will be included in this year’s Cheerios promotion. I’ve not read all of the books they’re offering up for votes, but the ones I HAVE read are great, and I’m sure they’ll ALL be real prizes. Which one will you vote for?
Got it now, thanks! 🙂
Holly, I just tried the link and it worked. Hopefully it will work for you, too! I have to check out the book that’s winning — I’ve never heard of it! I put my vote in for Mem Fox, because I love her so much. And of course Steve Jenkins, who lives in Boulder. 🙂
The “vote” link isn’t working! 😦 I tried through the Simon & Schuster website as well, and that didn’t work either. Maybe having a say in the next cereal box book was too good to be true. Still, it’s a wonderful idea of theirs, and they definitely are considering terrific titles!! Hooray! 🙂
