Tonight I am speaking at an event called Ignite Boulder. Ignite’s a cool idea, with a cool format: each speaker gets 5 minutes to talk about the topic of their choice, with 20 slides that automatically advance every 20 seconds.
The title of my talk is: “Everything I need to know I learned from preschoolers and picture books: Life lessons of a children’s librarian.” Much of the content comes from the stories I’ve told on this blog – and therefore, from the preschoolers themselves and the picturebooks I’ve shared with them.
I’m nervous, but excited. My speech includes mentions of a bunch of picture books, so I wanted to post a bibliography here in case anyone who saw the talk wants to find them again (they’re all awesome books, by the way!):
- Black, Michael Ian. Chicken Cheeks.
- Willems, Mo. Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.
- Dewdney, Anna. Llama Llama Mad at Mama.
- Lester, Helen. Tacky the Penguin.
- Tankard, Jeremy. Boo Hoo Bird.
- Baker, Keith. LMNO Peas.
- Broach, Elise. When Dinosaurs Came with Everything.
- Waddell, Martin. The Super Hungry Dinosaur.
- Harris, Robie H. The Day Leo Said “I Hate You!”.
- Krosoczka, Jarrett J. Punk Farm. (Also, check out Punk Farm on Tour – the animals visit Colorado!)
- Portis, Antoinette. Not a Box.
- Thomas, Jan. Rhyming Dust Bunnies.
- Watt, Mélanie. Scaredy Squirrel.
- Litwin, Eric. Pete the Cat.
- Wells, Rosemary. Read to your Bunny.
- Cabrera, Jane. If You’re Happy and You Know It.
Enjoy!
Congrats Mary! I’m sorry I missed it… but you are amazing!
