Randolph Caldecott Medal

Holy guacamole, I picked ’em! My picks for Newbery and Caldecott medals WON! That NEVER happens! Plus, I’ve actually read a bunch of these! Whoa! I think I’ll go buy a lottery ticket or something!

The ALA Children’s book awards were announced this morning.  The lucky winners are:

Caldecott Medal (award goes to the illustrator, in bold):

  • Pinkney, Jerry.  The Lion and the Mouse, illustrated by Jerry Pinkney. [Yay!]

Caldecott Honors:

  • Scanlon, Liz.  All the World, illustrated by Marla Frazee.
  • Sidman, Joyce. Red Sings from Treetops: A Year in Colors, illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski.

Newbery Medal:

  • Stead, Rebecca. When You Reach Me. [Double yay!]

Newbery Honors:

  • Hoose, Phillip.  Claudette Colvin, Twice Toward Justice.
  • Kelly, Jacqueline. The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate.  [loved it!]
  • Lin, Grace. Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.
  • Philbrick, Rodman. Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg.  [great story!]

Printz Medal:

  • Bray, Libba. Going Bovine. [actually sitting right now on my mantle waiting to be read. Better get on it!]

Printz Honors:

  • Heiligman, Deborah. Charles and Emma: The Darwin’s Leap of Faith. [Excellent. And I’m not a non-fiction fan]
  • Yancey, Rick. The Monstrumologist.
  • Rapp, Adam. Punkzilla.
  • Barnes, John. Tales of the Madman Underground: An Historical Romance, 1973.
