Thankful.

24 Nov

Happy Thanksgiving, dear readers! I hope your day is filled with family, friends, love, warmth and, of course, good food.

I have much to be thankful for. I’m thankful for working in a field where I get to share with so many passionate, enthusiastic people – my library colleagues, my fellow Flannel Friday-ers, all the Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy folks, the dedicated preschool teachers I see every day, and the parents who want their children to be successful. I’m thankful for the kids I visit – they are the reason I love my job. I’m thankful for the many authors and illustrators who every day make me excited to share their books with the children and teachers. You make it easy for me to help kids get excited about reading!

THANK YOU, EVERY DAY.

Flannel Friday: There’s a Bug on the Teacher

17 Jun

I can’t remember exactly where I found this poem, but I think it’s from The Goof Who Invented Homework: and Other School Poems. At any rate, the poem, and the book, is by Kalli Dakos.

Great for bug or school storytime. Or body parts!  You could also give each child a small plastic bug and have them move it to different parts of their bodies. The bugs could fly in the air during the AHChoo!

Like the bellbottoms?

Here’s the text of the poem. Move the bug around to each body part as it’s mentioned. Mine buzzes as it flies.:

There’s a Bug on the Teacher

by Kalli Dakos

There’s a bug on the teacher,

and it’s crawling on her shoe.

What will she do?

It’s crawling on her shoe!

There’s a bug on the teacher,

And it’s crawling on her pants.

Has us in a trance,

That bug on her pants.

There’s a bug on the teacher,

And it’s crawling on her shirt,

I hope it doesn’t hurt,

That bug on her shirt.

There’s a bug on the teacher,

And it’s crawling on her neck,

Everyone check,

It’s crawling on her neck!

There’s a bug on the teacher,

And it’s crawling on her nose,

Why do you suppose

It’s crawling on her nose?

Oh no! It's on her nose!

AhhhhhCHOOOOOO!!

There’s a bug on the floor,

And it’s crawling out the door!

Check with Melissa later today for the full Flannel Friday Round-Up!

What is this, like, the 1950s?

Today in storytime we used my “Best Dressed Bear” flannel pieces to get bear ready for a party. I have pants, a shirt, socks, shoes, a jacket, hat, tie, and gloves.

He also has underwear, which I made for him due to popular preschooler demand (they kept telling me he had to put them on before pants).

Today, a young lady, responding to my question about what bear should put on before his pants, said this: “a girdle.”

Ahem…I believe the current correct term is “shapewear.”

I also had this priceless exchange with a young man:

Boy: “What are you? Like, a librarian?”

Me: “Yes, I’m a librarian! That’s exactly what I am!”

Boy: “I’m going to be a librarian when I grow up.”

Teacher: “I thought you said you were going to be a teacher!”

Boy: “I changed my mind.”

I WIN.
